25 Common Bra Problems, and the Fixes

The short answer: the same 25 bra problems come up again and again: wrong size, wires popping, extra thick padding, no trial, no exchange, straps that slip, marks on the skin. Nineteen of them are fit problems, and fit is fixable. The other six are about how bras are sold, and that is fixable too.

A few years ago one of our community members listed every bra problem she and her friends had lived with. It ran to 25. We have grouped them into three kinds, with what actually fixes each.

Problems of size and fit (the ones a measuring tape solves)

1. Got the wrong size. Most women were never measured. Two numbers fix this: how to measure at home.
2. No cup sizes on the label. Market bras often carry a band number and nothing else. Ours carry a letter that already accounts for the cup.
3. Cups too tight, spilling over. Go up a cup, or a letter on seamless styles, and choose wide coverage.
4. Poor fitting overall. Band riding up, straps carrying the weight, centre lifting off the chest. The 5-point check in our measuring guide catches all three.
5. Back straps that ride up. The band is too loose. The band should do the holding, not the straps.
6. Straps that get loose. Adjust first; if they still slip, the style is wrong for your shoulders, not your body.
7. Straps that poke out. Under a kameez neckline, a wider-set or fuller-coverage style like Sure Cover Bra sits inside the line.
8. Bras causing back pain. Nearly always a band too loose and straps too tight. A firmer band fixes it.
9. Marks on the body. A band too tight, or a wire that does not sit. Wire-free and the right band leave nothing behind.

Problems with the bra itself (the ones design solves)

16. Ugly designs. Plain is the design. A bra you forget you are wearing is the goal.
