East-West or Side Spillage? Two Different Problems, Two Fixes

The short answer: They look similar in the mirror, but they are opposite problems. East-west is a breast shape: your breasts point outward, away from the centre, so a centring style brings them forward. Side spillage is a fit problem: tissue escapes at the side because the cup is too small, so you go up a cup and choose wide coverage. Tell them apart first, because the fixes pull in different directions.

Our founder flags this one often: women mix up east-west and spillage because both show up at the side. But one is about where your breasts naturally sit, and the other is about a cup that is simply too small. The wrong fix makes it worse.

How to tell which one you have

East-west: with no bra, your breasts point outward to the sides rather than forward. The tissue is yours, sitting where it naturally sits. A bra that does not centre will leave a gap at the inner cup and the breasts drifting apart.

Side spillage: with a bra on, a bulge of tissue escapes past the side of the cup, under the arm. Change the bra and the bulge changes. That is a cup running out of room, not a shape.

Fixing east-west: centring styles

You want a bra that draws the breasts toward the centre. The Signature Seamless Bra and the Seamless Contour Bra both do this, with a moulded or wide cup that gathers the tissue forward. Avoid plunge or very light styles, which leave an east-west shape spread wide.

Fixing side spillage: size up and cover wide

Spillage means the cup is one to two sizes too small. Go up a cup, and pick a wide-coverage style: the Sure Cover Bra, the Seamless Contour Bra, or the Plus Size Sculpting Bra for a fuller bust. A higher side wing keeps tissue in the cup instead of pushing it out.

When to get measured

If you cannot tell which one it is, that is exactly what a fitting is for. A fit advisor looks at your shape and your current cup in two minutes and tells you whether to centre or to size up. In store or on WhatsApp.

Questions women ask us

Can I have both at once?

Yes. An east-west shape in a cup that is also too small will spill and spread. Size the cup up first, then choose a centring style.

Will a push-up fix east-west?

It can push the breasts up and in, but on a seamless body a centring style is more comfortable for all day. A fitting will tell you.

Is east-west something wrong with me?

No. It is a normal breast shape, as normal as any other. It just means some bra cuts suit you better than others.
