East-West Breasts: Which Bras Bring Them to the Centre
The short answer: East-west means your breasts sit wide apart and the nipples point outward rather than forward. You want a style that gathers toward the centre: Seamless Contour Bra, Signature Seamless Bra, Un-Lined Bra. Avoid a plunge, which opens the centre further.
Around sixty women have written to ask us about this, usually without a name for it. The message is some version of “they point sideways, is something wrong”. Nothing is wrong. It is one of several normal shapes, and it changes which bra works.
How to tell if this is your shape
- There is a wider gap than you expect between your breasts at the centre.
- The nipples point outward, toward your arms, rather than straight ahead.
- In a plunge or a low-centre bra, the cups feel empty at the inner edge.
- In a very light or unstructured bra, the gap looks wider, not narrower.
It is a shape, not a size. Women with this shape span the whole size run.
What centres, and what does not
| Bra | Sizes | Effect on an east-west shape |
|---|---|---|
| Seamless Contour Bra | M to 3XL | Best answer. The moulded cup has a defined inner edge that gathers toward the centre. |
| Signature Seamless Bra | M to 2XL | Wide coverage with a firm inner edge. Good for everyday. |
| Un-Lined Bra | M to XL | Non-padded but shaped. Choose when you want a natural line. |
| Plunge Lite | M to XL | Not for this shape. A low centre opens the gap further. |
| Seamless Air Bra | M to 3XL | Very light, so it follows your shape rather than changing it. |
Why a moulded cup does the work
A moulded cup is pressed into a shape before it ever reaches your body, and that shape includes an inner edge that sits at an angle. When you put it on, the cup gently directs tissue forward and inward instead of letting it settle outward.
A soft, unmoulded cup cannot do this, because it takes whatever shape your body gives it. That is why the lightest bras, which many women reach for in the heat, make this particular shape look more pronounced.
The strap trick
One small adjustment helps more than women expect: set the straps slightly closer in toward your neck if the style allows it, and tighten them a little more than you would otherwise. This lifts and rotates the cup inward. Keep the band firm, though. The band still does most of the support.
Questions women ask us
Is east-west a problem I should fix?
No. It is a normal breast shape, like round or teardrop. The only thing worth changing is the bra, so that the shape you have is supported well.
Will a push-up help?
A push-up adds lift at the bottom, not gathering at the centre, so it does less for this than a moulded contour cup. If you want both, Comfort Curve Bra is sized by band and cup; use your exact cup.
Can padding close the gap?
Light padding with a defined inner edge can, which is exactly what the Contour does. Simply adding thick padding to an unshaped cup does not.
