Bra Rash and Itching: Fit, Wash or Hook?

The short answer: three causes, in the order to check them. One, fit: a band that rubs, a wire that digs, straps that carry weight. Two, wash: detergent left in the fabric, or hot water that stiffens it. Three, hardware: a hook, a seam or lace against sweaty skin. Change the fit first, the wash second, the bra third. "Rash" comes up 355 times in our Messenger threads. It is the fifth of our founder's five red flags, and the one with the most possible causes.

1. Fit: the most common cause

A band that is too tight rubs the ribcage raw by evening. A band that is too loose lets the bra move and chafe. A wire off its line digs into tissue. Straps carrying the weight groove the shoulders. All four leave marks or a rash in the same places every day. Run the five-sign fit test; if any sign is there, the rash is a fit problem, and the fix is the right size in a wire-free style (how to measure at home).

2. Wash: the cause people miss

• Detergent left in the fabric. A bra rinsed once holds detergent against skin that sweats. Rinse until the water runs clear.
• Hot water and harsh powder. Both stiffen a stretch knit, and a stiff band rubs. Hand wash in cool water with a mild liquid; air dry out of the sun.
• Wearing it damp. Dhaka humidity means a bra dried overnight indoors may still be damp at 8 am. Two bras in rotation solve it (bras for Dhaka heat).

3. Hardware and fabric

A hook that sits under the arm, a lace edge, a stitched seam: each is a small rough surface against sweaty skin for fifteen hours. When it is not the bra
