The 5-Point Fit Check Our Advisors Use in the Fitting Room
The short answer: Band snug with two fingers' room. Cups with no gap and no spill. Straps adjusted, not digging. Centre gore flat on your chest. And you can breathe, move, and lift your arms. These five checks are what our fit advisors run in every fitting, and you can do them at home too.
A fit check helps, but bodies change. Weight, posture, pregnancy, and age all shift your measurements. A bra that passed all five checks six months ago may not pass them today.
1. Band: Two Fingers, No More
Slide two fingers under the band at the back. They should fit snugly. If you can fit a full fist, the band is too loose and your straps will do all the work. If you cannot fit two fingers, it is too tight and will dig in within an hour. The band provides about 80% of a bra's support. It should sit level all the way around your torso, not ride up at the back. If it rides up, the band is too big. Pass: Two fingers slide under the band, and it sits level around your body. Fail: The band rides up, digs in, or you can fit more than two fingers underneath.2. Cups: No Gap, No Spill
The cup should hold all of your breast tissue without any gap at the top or any spill over the edges. Gaps mean the cup is too big. Spill means the cup is too small. Check the sides too. If breast tissue pushes out under your arm, the cup is not wide enough or the size needs to go up. A bra like the Seamless Contour Bra (Tk 2,035, M to 3XL) is a good test piece because its smooth cups make gaps and spill easy to spot. Pass: Cups sit smooth with no wrinkling, no gap, and no overflow. Fail: You see wrinkles in the fabric, a gap at the top, or tissue pushing out at the sides.3. Straps: Adjusted, Not Digging
Straps should be snug enough that they stay on your shoulders without slipping, but loose enough that they do not dig in or leave red marks. If tightening the straps is the only way to get support, the band is probably too loose. Straps fine-tune the fit. They are not supposed to carry the load. Pass: You can slip one finger under each strap, and they stay put when you move your arms. Fail: Straps slide off, dig in, or leave marks after wearing for a short time.4. Centre Gore: Flat Against Your Chest
The centre gore is the small piece of fabric or wire between the two cups, right at the front. It should sit flat against your chest, touching your skin. If the centre gore lifts away from your body, the cups are likely too small. The bra cannot contain everything, so the front pushes forward. Pass: The centre gore touches your chest and stays flat when you move. Fail: The gore floats away from your body or presses in uncomfortably.5. Comfort: Breathe, Move, Lift
Put the bra on and do three things. Take a deep breath. Raise both arms above your head. Bend forward. The bra should stay in place through all three. Nothing should ride up, shift sideways, or pinch. If you have to readjust after any of these movements, something is off. This final check is the one most women skip at home. Standing still in front of a mirror only tests half the fit. Your bra has to work when you move. Pass: The bra stays put through breathing, lifting, and bending. Fail: It shifts, pinches, or rides up during movement.Questions women ask us
Can I do this fit check at home?
Yes. All five checks work with any bra you already own. Stand in front of a mirror, run through each point, and note what passes and what does not.
What if my bra fails one check but passes the others?
One failure usually points to a sizing issue. A failed band check means the band size is off. A failed cup check means the cup size needs adjusting. Start with the point that failed.
How often should I do a fit check?
Every time you buy a new bra, and again every few months. Weight changes, hormonal shifts, and general wear can all change how a bra fits over time.
Does this check work for seamless bras without wires?
Yes. The five points apply to every bra style, whether it has wires, is seamless, or is unlined. The principles of band support, cup fit, and comfort are the same.
