Double-Georgette Shows Everything: What to Wear Under It
The short answer: Georgette is thin and it clings, so it shows every seam, every lace edge and every bit of side spill. What works under it is a seamless bra with bonded edges, light padding and high side wings. The Seamless Contour Bra was built for exactly this.
“Double-georgette er niche ki porbo?” comes up every wedding season. You have the outfit. You put it on, and suddenly there are three lines across your back that were not there in the mirror shop. That is not the outfit and it is not your body. It is the bra underneath.
Why georgette is harder than cotton
Cotton has body. It holds its own shape, so it forgives a textured bra underneath. Georgette does the opposite: it is light, slightly stretchy and it drapes straight onto whatever is under it. Anything with a seam, a lace trim or a hook ridge prints through. Two layers of double-georgette help a little, but not as much as women hope.
So the fix is not a thicker outfit. It is a smoother base.
The three things to look for
In order of how much difference they make:
- Bonded or laser-cut edges. The cup edge should melt into your skin instead of ending in a stitched seam. This is the single biggest cause of a visible line.
- High side wings. Georgette shows side spill more than almost any other fabric. A wing that comes up higher under the arm smooths the area instead of cutting into it.
- Light padding, not heavy. A thin moulded layer stops show-through and keeps the shape even. Heavy padding adds volume that georgette then outlines.

Most styles run M to 3XL, with core styles reaching 5XL. Band-and-cup styles come in bands 34 to 44, cups A to DD. On seamless styles, if you are between sizes, go up one.
Colour matters more than you think
Under pale georgette, a bra that matches your skin disappears and a white bra glows. Coffee outsells every other shade at SHAPE for this reason, and maroon also vanishes under white and cream. Black under pale georgette is the one combination that always shows.
Questions women ask us
Will shapewear help under a georgette saree?
It can smooth the waist, but it will not fix a visible bra line. Sort the bra first, then add Tummy Tucking Bodyshaper if you want a cleaner line through the midsection.
Can I wear a lace bra under georgette?
Not if you want it invisible. Lace is the most visible texture there is under a thin drape. Keep lace for heavier fabrics.
I still see a line at the back. What now?

Does the padding show through georgette?
Light moulded padding does not. Heavy push-up padding can, because it changes the silhouette the fabric falls over.
