Pohela Boishakh: Under a White-and-Red Saree
The short answer: Two problems at once: white shows everything, and April is hot. A coffee or maroon seamless under the blouse solves the first, because both disappear under white. Fast-drying nylon-spandex solves the second. And nothing should need adjusting once you are at the mela.
The white-and-red saree is the one outfit of the year almost everyone wears, in the hottest month, usually for a whole day outdoors. It is also the outfit where a white bra under white cotton surprises people every single year.
White under white does not work
This is the most common mistake and it feels like it should be right. A white bra under a white blouse is visible, because white fabric over white fabric produces a visible edge wherever the layers differ in thickness or sheen.
What disappears under white is a shade close to your own skin. Coffee outsells every other shade we make largely for this reason. Maroon also vanishes under white and cream, which surprises women the first time and then becomes the thing they tell their friends.

The heat part
April, outdoors, from morning to evening. This is the day the fabric matters most. Nylon-spandex absorbs sweat and dries fast, which is what keeps the band from staying damp against your ribcage for twelve hours. That damp band is what produces chafing by the afternoon.

Shapewear, only if the saree needs it

Be honest with yourself about the heat, though. It is an extra layer on the hottest day of the year. Plenty of women wear it for a wedding and skip it for Boishakh, and that is a sensible distinction.
Whatever you choose, wear it for a full day beforehand. Boishakh is not the day to discover that a band rides up after four hours.
