Nylon-Spandex, Cotton, Mesh: Which Fabric for a Hot Climate
The short answer: Cotton feels familiar and holds sweat against your skin. Nylon-spandex, which is what almost everything we make is cut from, absorbs sweat and dries fast. Mesh panels add airflow where heat builds. In Dhaka, drying fast matters more than feeling soft on the shelf.
“Cotton nai?” is one of the most common questions we get, and it is a fair one. Cotton is what women here have been told is the breathable choice. For a garment worn fifteen hours in this climate, it is not quite that simple.
What each fabric actually does
| Fabric | Feels | In heat | Dries | Where we use it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nylon-spandex | Smooth, slightly cool | Absorbs sweat, moves it away from skin | Fast | Almost the whole range |
| Cotton-spandex | Soft, familiar | Absorbs sweat and holds it | Slowly | Easy Fit Sports Bra |
| Mesh panels | Light, open | Moves air through | Fast | Mesh Minimizer Bra |
Why cotton is not the obvious winner here
Cotton is genuinely breathable in the sense that air passes through it. The problem is what happens once it is wet. Cotton holds moisture, and a damp band pressed against your ribcage for fifteen hours is what produces the chafing, itching and rash women then ask us about.
Nylon-spandex moves moisture away and dries quickly, so the band stays drier through the day. It is the less intuitive answer and it is the one that works better in a Dhaka April.
Where mesh earns its place
Mesh is not decorative on Mesh Minimizer Bra. The panels sit at the sides, which is where heat builds under an arm and under a single layer of clothing, and they let air through a part of the bra that would otherwise be solid fabric.
It runs M to 2XL.
The cotton exception, and when to choose it
Easy Fit Sports Bra is cotton-spandex, runs M to 2XL, and pulls on with no hooks. Choose it when you want the softness and the no-hooks convenience more than you want fast drying: yoga, a day of classes, or sleeping.
Give any new fabric a full day before judging it. Nylon-spandex feels unfamiliar for the first hour if you have worn cotton for years, and then most women stop noticing it.
Questions women ask us
Do you make a fully cotton bra?
Not a fully cotton one. Easy Fit Sports Bra is cotton-spandex and is the closest we have.
Which bra is coolest in April?
Seamless Air Bra, the lightest thing we make. Mesh Minimizer Bra if you also want a smaller line.
I get a rash in synthetic fabric. What should I do?
Try Easy Fit Sports Bra in cotton-spandex, wash more often, and dry fully. If it continues, see a doctor rather than keep changing bras.
How long does the fabric last?
Six to nine months of regular wear. Dry in the shade, never in a dryer, and never wring it out.
