The role

The job to be done

Ensure every SHAPE store is staffed, stocked with trained people, and operating to the same standard on every day it is open.

Resolve store level matters at store level, and bring to the founder only what genuinely requires a founder’s decision, accompanied by a recommended course of action.

Purpose

Why this role exists

SHAPE’s retail stores are the primary driver of company performance. Store operations are a principal growth function rather than a support function.

At present, store level matters are directed to the founders. This includes shift coverage, staff disagreements, training of new hires, transfer requests and operational issues on the shop floor. Routine decisions therefore wait for founder availability. This role establishes a single point of operational ownership for the store network.

Scope

The scope of the role

SHAPE currently operates seven retail stores in Dhaka. Two opened within the last two months and further locations are in the pipeline.

This role is accountable for the full store network rather than a fixed number of stores. As the network grows, the scope of the role grows with it. Candidates should expect the number of stores under their responsibility to increase during their tenure.

The work

Responsibilities

Staffing and coverage

  • Own the staffing roster across all stores, including shift allocation and published schedules
  • Arrange cover for planned leave and unplanned absence, so that no store operates below its required staffing level
  • Coordinate with the logistics function where stock arrival timing affects floor coverage requirements

Team development

  • Act as the first point of contact for all Store Associates and Fit Advisors on shift changes, interpersonal matters and inter-store transfer requests
  • Own the induction and training pipeline for every new store hire, from first day through to independent floor responsibility
  • Take over the store hires currently in training, who report to this role from the first week

Standards and escalation

  • Conduct a structured rotation of store visits, assessing merchandising, customer experience and adherence to operating standards
  • Maintain a written record of store level incidents and customer complaints so that recurring patterns are identified early
  • Determine which matters are resolved at store level and which require founder involvement, and present escalations with a recommended course of action

The day

A typical day

  • Morning. Confirm staffing coverage across every store for the day. Resolve any gap before stores open at 11 AM.
  • Through the day. Respond to queries from store teams. Decide what is handled directly and what is escalated. Visit stores on the published rotation and record observations against the standards checklist.
  • Afternoon. Conduct training sessions with new hires. Review the previous day’s store level incidents and complaints.
  • End of day. Update the incident and complaints record. Prepare the following day’s coverage.
  • Weekly. Publish the roster for all stores. Review conversion and walk-in figures by store. Attend the Sunday written stand-up with figures and escalations prepared.

Background

Who this role suits

Relevant experience, in order of preference:

  • Multi-store retail operations, area management or cluster management
  • Store management within a retail chain, with readiness to take on multiple sites
  • Field or operations management in organised multi-outlet businesses, including pharmacy chains and restaurant groups
  • Hospitality operations with accountability for more than one outlet

We are looking for a demonstrated track record in the same or a closely comparable role. Candidates who have held simultaneous responsibility for staff across more than one location will be prioritised. Placement within the salary range is determined by how closely prior experience matches this role.

Requirements

What we look for

  • Demonstrated experience managing staff across more than one retail location simultaneously
  • A track record of building and maintaining staff rosters, including managing unplanned absence at short notice
  • Experience training new retail staff from induction through to independent floor responsibility
  • The ability to assess a store on a visit and identify specific operational issues without prompting
  • Experience presenting matters to senior management with a proposed resolution
  • Working proficiency in Bangla, which is the operating language of the stores

Measures

Performance measures

Reviewed monthly:

  • Staffing coverage. Percentage of trading days across the network with full required staffing
  • Store standards. Score against the standards checklist on each store visit
  • Training completion. New hires reaching independent floor responsibility within the agreed period
  • Conversion rate. Buyers divided by walk-ins, by store
  • Escalation quality. Proportion of matters reaching the founder that arrive with a recommended course of action

Before you apply

Questions candidates ask

Do I need to have managed more than one location before?

Yes. Simultaneous responsibility for staff across more than one retail location is the core requirement, and candidates who hold it are prioritised. Placement within the salary range is determined by how closely prior experience matches this role.

How many stores would I be responsible for?

The full store network rather than a fixed number. SHAPE currently operates seven stores in Dhaka and further locations are in the pipeline, so the scope of the role grows with the network during your tenure.

Is this an office role or a store role?

It is field based. A substantial proportion of the work takes place in stores rather than at a desk, and store level matters arise without notice, including outside standard office hours. The role is based at the Niketon office.

Do I need English for this role?

Working proficiency in Bangla is required, because Bangla is the operating language of the stores. English is useful for reporting but is not a primary requirement. You may interview in whichever is easier for you.

Is there an application deadline?

No. Applications are reviewed as they arrive and the role closes as soon as the right person is found, so applying early makes a real difference.
